This multi-volume book gives a four-part snapshot of the life of a poet, with the visual aid of an illustration, an intimation type of poem, a biographical sketch with images, and some writings. There is a heavy emphasis on writers having a seminal influence on writing, internationally. Pure poetry became a phase of poetic development for all poets. Pureness is defined and represented and then blended into the narrative. Some are primarily novelists, like Hawthorne; others wrote pure poetry exclusively for three years and died, like Keats. All wrote essays, especially Poe, and Keats’ letters are still the best in the genre. I am including African, Afro-American, and Black writers with important influences from Central and South America, the Caribbean and Africa.
